Organ Recital : Benedict Tanner : 13 June 2026

Benedict Tanner will be giving a recital on the organ in St Stephen’s Church, North Mundham on Saturday 13 June 2026 between 3pm and 4pm

Benedict began his musical training at the age of six, learning the violin and piano. A year later he joined the choir of St. Paul’s Cathedral, where he started learning the organ. During his time as a Music Scholar at Rugby School, he featured in two Choral Evensongs on BBC Radio 3, once as an organist and once with a performance of his choral composition, Those Who Wait for the Lord. Benedict is currently the Organ Scholar at Chichester Cathedral and, beginning in September 2026, he will study music at Oxford University as the Organ Scholar at New College.

The St Stephen’s Church organ is a two manual and pedal instrument, with mechanical tracker action. The organ was built by Messrs Wordsworth & Maskell of Leeds and installed in 1884. An electric blower was fitted in 1936. The organ was thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt in 2002 by FH Browne and Sons, Organ Builders of Canterbury.

We have on good authority that Alan Thurlow thought our organ is one of the very best in West Sussex. We have had an organ recital annually over the last few years and it is truly amazing to hear the sounds that these talented organists can bring forth. Well worth attending and we hope to see you there!

There will be a retiring collection for St Stephen’s Church’s funds.

Refreshments will be served after the recital.

Date: Saturday 13 June 2026
Time: 3-4pm
Venue: St Stephen’s Church, Church Road, North Mundham, Chichester, West Sussex PO201JU

Joint Service on Mothering Sunday 15 March 2026

Our Mothering Sunday service was very well attended. Revd Wyn Jones took the service. He spoke about his own mother and their loving but human relationship, also remembering that not all had a good relationship with their mother or with motherhood. He then beautifully linked this to the readings today – in particular how today’s church can be kind to others and exhibit God’s love. He talked about God being a mother hen to us.

The Sunday School made cards for their mothers, drew pictures of watering cans to demonstrate how they grow under their mother’s love and care – and if not interested in crafting, there was an opportunity to share what their mothers meant to them.

They handed wrapped pots of flowers out to their mothers and all the women in church.

Thank you to everyone who donated the flowers and wrapping, and helped to prepare the flowers for our service today.
